As a mural and portrait artist with more than 25 years of experience, Kim Murphy
is helping Orlando feel seen through art. Having been a psychotherapist for the
past twelve years serving the LGBTQ+ community, she is taking a sabbatical from therapy and returning to her first love, painting. Kim knows that there is power in representation and that creative expression can lead to healing. Through her membership in the Maven Leadership Collective, she has created a
mural painting initiative centering the QTPOC community called Painting Change. Kim partners with companies, non-profits and local government to create public works of art, painted by volunteers, with the goal of increasing queer representation and a sense of belonging for people of color throughout Central Florida.

Like you, I am someone who has survived many challenges. Received my first training to support others in 2012. Been evolving in this work since.
Overall, I am in a continual process of learning to be more myself (whole & sovereign) in community with those who seek the same.

Before I started working with Peer Support Space (PSS), I was a participant of some of the in-person groups that PSS had started offering in 2019. I became a peer group facilitator at the beginning of 2020, hosting daily virtual support groups throughout the height of the Pandemic, and currently I continue to hold compassionate space for folks. Since 2020, I’ve also become a co-facilitator for the Disability (is Not A Bad Word) group and their social meet-ups. Additionally, I provide one-to-one (1:1) support for peers who may benefit from an individualized approach. I will occasionally guest-facilitate the hybrid Butterfly Talks group and the in-person Be Kind To Your Mind group. I graduated in May 2018 with my bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida, and I have been certified as an adult recovery peer specialist in the state of Florida since August 2021.
