Who is Peer Support Space?

 Peer Support Space Inc. is a grassroots organization, led by and for those in recovery from mental health and  substance use challenges, trauma, grief or other obstacles to wellness. We use, and help others use, the power of lived experience to support, educate, and guide one another while providing additional, free options for mental wellness. We are changing the culture of mental wellness 

What is a Peer Specialist?

A Certified Recovery Peer Specialists (CRPS) utilize their unique lived experience to ensure client directed care by assisting individuals to build the specific skills and relationships needed to achieve and maintain recovery from substance use and/or mental health conditions. All of our staff and facilitators are Certified Recovery Peer Specialists or are working towards becoming certified.  

What is a Peer Respite?

 Peer respites are voluntary, short-term, overnight programs that provide community-based, non-clinical crisis support to help people find new understanding and ways to move forward. They operate 24 hours per day in a homelike environment.  The Peer Support Space Respite will be staffed and operated by Certified Recovery Peer Specialists who use their lived experience and training to assist others as they heal.  

How do Peer Respites Work?

Peer respites engage guests in mutual, trusting relationships with peer staff. Peer support involves a process of mutual helping based on the principles of respect and shared responsibility. Peer support includes interactions in which individuals help themselves and others through fostering relationships and engaging in advocacy to empower people to participate in their communities.
