Where Chosen Family Heals Together
Peer Support Space is a peer-led 501(c)3, located in Central Florida. Our mission is to build, and be a local hub for, diverse peer-led recovery communities.
Peer Support Space was born out of a need for a peer-led organization that exists outside of the current system where we can use our lived experience to support and hold space for one another as we navigate our unique journeys with mental illness and/or substance misuse challenges, neurodivergence, disability, grief, trauma, or other obstacles to mental wellness.
All of our services and advocacy initiatives are led for and by those the services are intended for. Every community is unique and nobody can understand needs, culture, and nuances like members from the community itself. All of our services and advocacy initiatives are led for and by those the services are intended for. Every community is unique and nobody can understand needs, culture, and nuances like members from the community itself. Due to this, we don’t just focus on training people with lived mental health experiences, we focus on uplifting individuals from diverse backgrounds and host services created and led by and for the communities they serve.
We acknowledge that the current mental health system continues to repeatedly fail specific communities disproportionately. We focus on catching individuals that fall through the cracks of our mental health system. We help those (18+) navigating mental illness and/or substance misuse challenges, neurodivergence, disability, grief, trauma, or other obstacles to mental wellness.
"The support groups offered by Peer Support Space are as diverse as the people they bring together. Everyone's voice is heard. There is no barrier between client and provider because the facilitators are everyday people having the same sorts of experiences or identities as everyone else."
-Taylor, PSS Community Gatherings Participant
"What a fabulous organization! As a local therapist, I have referred a number of my clients to PSS's virtual support groups during COVID, to help them gain connection and community. I only hear rave reviews! Thank you, PSS, for being you!”
-Heather Stambaugh, LMHC
I came [to PSS] extremely depressed and suicidal and I was welcomed with open arms from the group. I no longer felt so alone in my struggles...I am and forever will be grateful for these calls. [They] literally have saved my life and I have made some amazing new friends!!!”
-Anonymous, PSS Daily Digital Gatherings Participant
“My favorite part about being a Peer Support Space facilitator is the authentic happiness individuals share for one another's wins and how welcoming the group is to new folx."
-Anonymous, PSS Facilitator
"Having the daily calls as a continued source of human connection and support has been lifesaving to me. It's the only thing that has prevented me from having a complete breakdown during this time.”
-Anonymous, PSS Daily Digital Gatherings Participant
"Love Peer Support Space! I'm a psychologist in the community and rely on referring clients to groups for ongoing support. I even volunteer my office space monthly for a group. Engage. Refer. Volunteer!”
-Stephanie Mahaffery, PhD
"Peer Support Space has done an incredible job creating a safe open space for anyone in the LGBTQ community. It has been such an amazing experience for my wife and I to be able to open up with no judgement, no shame, and to have such a supportive group of people we now call our close friends."
-Van, Butterfly Talks Participant
During my time at PSS, I was surrounded by people that genuinely cared for others and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. It takes a lot to be human, but thanks to Yasmin and Dandelion, we have a space that makes it a little easier.
-Jazmine, PSS Volunteer
Peer Support Space does their work with compassion, humility, and joy - you can feel that in all that they do! I love seeing their posts and joining their events - in-person and virtually. They have created a community where “it’s ok not to be ok” and I love it!”
-Daniel Anzueto, Co-Founder of Maven Leadership Collective
